Rudolf Donitz was Hans Donitz's father and Werner Donitz's grandfather.

Rudolf and his brothers (Walter, Joachim, and Friedrich) fought in separate branches of the Nazi army in WWII. Rudolf fought in Berlin as a member of the Waffen SS and surrendered to the Russians. He and Walter survived the war.
